11 BABY ESSENTIALS FOR THE FIRST 3 MONTHS THAT YOU PROBABLY FORGOT ALL ABOUT…
1. BABY SLING
I was so lucky to have been sent out one of these to review. Personally, I would never have thought about buying one beforehand because I thought they were too fiddly. Once I got the hang of wrapping it properly then it became a very useful tool. I actually wrote all about the importance of skin to skin contact and my experience with the amawrap baby sling.
They do lots of different colours but as you can see in the pictures below we went for the black edition. I thought that this would be the easiest to match with my clothing but in all honesty, I wish I had been more adventurous!
The thing that I liked most about using a sling was the fact that I was never restricted to having to sit back and let my daughter lie on me all day long. By using the sling she could be snuggled closely into my chest but still allow me to get on with things that needed to be done.
How’s that for a multitasking mum!
2. FORMULA PREP MACHINES
What is the Tommee Tippee Perfect Prep Machine?
It’s worth noting that there are a lot of mixed opinions on this product but I wanted to share our experience today. In all honesty, I didn’t even know this product existed until I received one as a gift but I’m so glad we did because it was a lifesaver.
Of course, I completely understand if you would rather make your bottles yourself by hand. I feel that products like this are always down to the families personal preference anyway and I’m sure nobody knows your family better than you.
The Tommee Tippee Perfect Prep Machine works by releasing a hot shot of water into your babies bottle. This water is exactly 70°c which is the perfect temperature in order to kill any bacteria that may be in your babies milk formula. The initial burst of hot water also helps to dissolve the formula quickly and easily. After adding in the required amount of formula all you have to do is hit the button and the rest of the bottle will be filled up with cold water. Within 2 minutes you will have a bottle of milk made for you at the perfect temperature for your little one.
The benefits of using a machine like this at 2 am whilst your baby screams for their bottle is self-explanatory really! No waiting around and a lot more vital sleep for mum and dad.
The only downside to this product is that you have to replace the filter inside every few months… which is quite pricey! However, back when we bought these we found out that you could get a multi-box of 4 filters which lasted us the whole time that we needed to use the machine.
3. THE BEST NAPPY/DIAPER CADDY FOR DOWNSTAIRS
Oh, this is a MUST HAVE! the downstairs nappy caddy we had was a godsend for when you were knackered and didn’t want to have to keep going upstairs. It was even more important for us as I ended up having a c-section birth therefore, the stairs were an issue for me. By having a nappy caddy downstairs it enabled us to have nappies, wet wipes, Sudocrem and any other necessity in close proximity without it looking messy.
One of the best things about these is that they actually look extremely modern and matched perfectly with our living room decor.
4. WHAT NAPPIES/DIAPERS SHOULD I USE?
A lot of people rant and rave about specific nappy brands but I have personally tried near on every brand and see no difference. In all honesty, I absolutely love the Aldi diapers/nappies because they are cheap and affordable. They seem to be no different from the Pampers premium protection yet they are over half of the price.
It’s worth taking some time to try out each and every brand but from my personal experience, the cheap ones do just as good of a job. Don’t splash the cash on products that you don’t need too.
5. NURSERY DRESSER
Nursery dressers are another type of baby changing tables with drawers underneath. These are a great way of combining a changing table with extra storage so you don’t have to take up double the room inside of your nursery. We had one of these and it was fantastic as we had everything we needed to use during changing times stored directly underneath.
You can also get a crib with changing table attached to it if you’re lacking the room. These are another great way of combining two vital pieces of furniture together.
If you’re super nerdy when it comes to organisation like me then you’ll love these baby room organisers. We had these in the draws of our nursery dresser and it made our lives a lot easier by having everything stored in the correct place.

6. MUSLINS/BURP CLOTHS
These are another must-have baby essential for the first 3 months, potentially even longer. I’m pretty sure we used muslins all the way up until Alexis turned one. She was a very messy baby and muslins helped in so many ways.
Need I say anymore!!!
I never paid out dearly for muslins because in all honesty they just get wrecked. As well as the fact you go through hundreds of them so there’s just not much point in paying out a lot of money.
Nevertheless, I did think these muslins were pretty darn cute!
7. BABY CAR MIRROR
You will never understand the overwhelming fear of driving with a newborn until you drive home from the hospital for the very first time.
Oh my gosh, I have never felt anything like it!
Due to this exact reason I really wish we had bought a baby car mirror sooner. There are so many available on the market but the best baby car mirror has got to be this cheap one we found on Amazon.
Originally, we bought a Maxi Cosi baby mirror to go with our car seat but it was rubbish. It kept falling down and never stayed in the same position for longer than 5 minutes.
Maybe it was the brand, maybe it was my driving! who knows…
8. READY TO FEED FORMULA MILK
Ready To Feed formula is something I did not know existed until I was in the hospital and could not manage to successfully breastfeed. Alexis was screaming due to hunger and wanting to feed however I couldn’t manage it. Therefore, Matt had to do a super-quick stressful dash to the local supermarket to pick up some of these bad boys.
They are UHT sterilised bottles of formula that require absolutely no preparation. They are perfect for the first couples of days as well as, feeding in the middle of the night.
We did not use these for long by my god did they help out at the beginning.
If I was to have another baby I would definitely pack some of these in my hospital bag just in case I had the same problem again.
You can also get these formula milk bottles for almost any baby milk brand.
Here is a list of some of the most popular ones below:
9. BABY CRADLE CHAIR
Although babies like to be held a lot (and I mean a lot!!!). Us mums do sometimes want a break and it’s ok to put your baby down every now and then.
We found that a baby chair worked really well because not only are they safe but little ones seem to love them. My little girl used to sit in her baby cradle chair and I would gently rock it with my foot.
If you’re really fancy you can also get ones that rock for you! Imagine that!
We ended up getting a very cute, soft and pink padded baby chair that vibrated and played soothing music. It was really great for the price that we paid and we definitely got our money’s worth. Although we purchased this directly from Mothercare you can now buy it straight from Amazon.
If I was to have another baby I would definitely invest a tiny bit more money and get the Kinderkraft 5in1 rocker swing, chair and cot bouncer. It is definitely one of the best baby rocking cradles on the market right now. It will also save you having to invest in multiple baby products throughout the first 3 years of your little one’s life.
10. CRIB TOYS
So many people say that babies that are 3 months and under don’t need toys because they won’t play with them. Fair enough, I don’t expect my little one to be jumping up and down throwing a ball around however toys that require the use of their senses are perfect for 21 weeks & under.
My daughters favourite toy was her night light projector! We ended up getting her the Vtech lullaby sheep cot light and we were super pleased with it. It isn’t the most expensive however, it was perfect for us.
I have also heard many great things about Ewan The Dream Sheep Although, I cannot give my personal opinion on this product because we didn’t use it. Sweet dreamers products tend to be a bit dearer but I’ve heard from other mums that it’s an incredible product that actually works.
I wish I didn’t have to describe it as survival but for a first time mum that’s exactly how it feels. All of a sudden you have this adorable yet helpless little life in your arms and it’s your job as it’s mother to protect him/her. Whether you are a first-time mum or on your fourth child it’s still a very scary time.
I hope todays list of must have baby essentials for the first 3 months help you have peace of mind. If you’re organised I can assure you will enjoy the first stages a lot more.
Don’t be like me and leave everything until the last minute!
