I’m guessing that you are currently sat hiding in the bathroom, aimlessly searching the internet for help and desperately waiting for your kid to stop shouting “MUM, WHERE ARE YOU?” Well, do not fear because I know that feeling all too well and I have something that will help you get back to super mum mode. Don’t get me wrong, my daughter can only currently say “DA DA DA DA DAAAAAD DAAAAD DAD” but even still that’s very high pitched and quite frankly annoying.
So to the mum who’s currently reading this desperately in need of 5 minutes by themselves. I want you to know that you are not alone (as much as you might want to be). All of us mums have moments when we feel like this so please remember you are not the first and you definitely won’t be the last. It’s completely normal to feel the sense of being overwhelmed whilst parenting. We all feel it and you know why? Because motherhood is the hardest job you will ever do. It is both physically and mentally draining but even more so when you love that person so much.
Sometimes us mums and dads need to take a step back and take one big deep breath. I often get so overwhelmed with daily chores, tantrums and over-excited children who never keep still and also never get tired. I’ve told myself that it’s ok to take a break. It does not make me a bad mum or a failure just because I need to be ‘Ashleigh’ instead of mum for a while.
WHAT ARE POSITIVE AFFIRMATIONS AND WHY DO I NEED THEM IN MY LIFE?
Daily affirmations can have such a huge impact on your thoughts, feelings general well being. They can be a great resource for making yourself feel better rather than dragging yourself down because who doesn’t like to hear nice things about themselves? The more you tell yourself something the more you will start to believe it. As someone who really struggles not to be negative Nelly 99% of the time, I found these really beneficial for my mental health and well being. I often like to save mine to a positivity board so that I can go back and look at them any time I need to.
INCORPORATING HAPPINESS INTO YOUR LIFE:
If you follow me on Instagram you will know that I try to keep as happy, content and confident as I can be. I have t-shirts with positive slogans, I have quotes printed around my house, and I have numerous amounts of diaries and gratitude journals. I do everything I can to make sure that I surround myself with happiness. I will be the first to admit that happiness doesn’t come naturally to me. I suffer from depression, anxiety and other mental health disorders that sometimes prevent me from coping well in this funny thing we call life. However, I do fight against it and 99% of the time I like to think I win.
One thing that makes me happy is shopping! Yup, who’d have thought it! A girl who loves to shop… Recently, I was sent a load of slogan t-shirts from a company called Femmeluxe and I loved them. I have been living in them since the day the postman delivered them to my door. We all deserve a pick me up from time to time and this was definitely mine! They have made me so happy and I’ve even returned to buy myself some more since.
25 POSITIVE AFFIRMATIONS TO SAY TO YOURSELF:
- In the eyes of my child/children, I will always be good enough.
- It’s just a bad day, not a bad life.
- My children won’t remember how high my ironing pile was. They will only remember the quality time I spent with them.

- Having days where I feel like I’ve failed doesn’t make me a bad mum it just makes me a real mum.

DON’T STOP THERE! CREATE YOUR VERY OWN AFFIRMATIONS:
If there are certain areas that you feel you need to focus on then make up your own affirmations. Not every one of those statements above will relate to you so pick out the ones that do. There really is no right or wrongs here so do what feels right to you. Some people like to create affirmation posters or cards, some like to write them in a journal and some like to read them out loud to themselves. It’s all about finding what works best for you.
TO THE MUM STRUGGLING WITH HER MENTAL HEALTH
Mental health is something that everyone will struggle with at some point in their lives. The worse thing about it is that it can’t always be seen. Although it can come with some visible symptoms it is quite often invisible to recognise. It’s one of those things that can be easily hidden away so people often think they are alone. The aim of my blog was always to be honest and show people the reality of life. Since becoming a mum I’ve realised how important that is. If there is one person in this world who judges themselves and compares themselves to everyone AND EVERYTHING else then it’s definitely a mother.
I just want you to know that from one mum to another we are all the exact same. We all compare, we all judge and we all feel like we could be doing better even though we are already doing our best. If you feel like this then you should know that that in itself already makes you the best mum. Do you want to know why? the reason why is because it shows that you care, love and want what’s best for your baby. You just need to keep reminding yourself that, which is why my daily affirmations are so god damn handy!
