I think it’s fair to say that COVID-19 has pretty much taken over the world right now. People are literally being affected by this crisis here, there and everywhere. The coronavirus has now been recorded within 212 different countries and has killed a total of 270,769 people as of right now. One of which was a dearest family member of mine. It’s such a weird and surreal feeling out there at the moment, isn’t it? There is very little information on the virus and I don’t know about you but the unknown makes it so much worse for me. With all of this in mind, it’s extremely important to remember to put your own health and wellbeing first and foremost during the lockdown.
I have decided to put together 10 simple ways to keep yourself both physically and mentally well during this unsettling time. Lockdown doesn’t have to be stressful and scary and hopefully, with my help, you’ll pull through the other side stronger than ever.
I’ve personally had many up’s and downs throughout the past 6 weeks of self-isolating. Each day I make sure to remind myself that I am one of the lucky ones and that’s what keeps me going. I am very grateful to still be alive, surrounded by my loved ones and still be able to work from home.
DRINK MORE WATER – DRINK LESS WINE
I can not stress enough how important it is to keep yourself well hydrated. Then again, I also can’t stress enough that I am the biggest hypocrite going. I most definitely do not drink as much water as I should but I’m always the first to pour a glass of wine. I know that I need to start drinking more (water not wine) because I constantly have headaches and seriously lack motivation. However, I have had enough of feeling this way and have since discovered a solution that ACTUALLY works.
During the lockdown, I decided to buy myself a water bottle that shows you how much you should drink for each hour of the day. It’s helped me to increase my intake massively. It’s a really motivating method of helping improve your daily water intake because you can keep track. Since drinking more I have noticed a huge difference in many different aspects of my life. I have noticed my skin looking healthier, felt much more motivated to conquer my to-do list and my daily trips to the toilet have almost tripled! (yes, you will pee a lot)
Why You Should Drink Water! Here’s 6 Benefits:
- Gives you clearer and healthier skin.
- Prevents kidney damage.
- Helps to boost your performance during exercise.
- Can help with weight loss.
- Can cure and prevent headaches.
- Improves your mood.
- Prevents fatigue and helps to motivate your brain.
- Helps to flush out any toxins.
TREAT YOURSELF TO A NEW WARDROBE
I am forever saying the phrase “I look like this so that my daughter can look like that” because she is always better dressed than me. That little girl has a wardrobe that any woman would absolutely die for. I don’t know about you lot but I’m that mum who sees a top that she likes and immediately thinks “oh no, I can’t afford that”. Then I will see that Zara have a sale on and immediately go and buy her 6 outfits just because she’s cute and I can.
THERE’S JUST NO IN-BETWEEN WITH ME!
I was recently gifted (Nope, not Alexis! I) some gorgeous tee’s from the company Femmeluxe. You have most probably seen me mention this company once or twice (ok maybe quite a few) times before. I am literally obsessed with them! Not only do they offer some gorgeous products but at a price that I could not complain about paying!
With us all being stuck in lockdown I decided to treat myself to some oversized motivation t-shirts (told you the water was working). I also decided to choose some cosy loungewear joggers because let’s be honest, who on earth is wearing jeans right now! I was so happy with my order that I thought I would hop on here and tell you all about them. It was also kind of part of the deal in order to get them for free in the first place. Nevertheless, I’m very happy and I’m sure the PR agents are too!

INVEST IN YOUR FREE TIME WISELY:
As you’ve got plenty of free time on your hands why don’t you do something productive? Use your time wisely and learn something new. Whether that’s a new language, an instrument, or deciding to take an online course like me. There’s never been a more perfect time than right now so don’t beat around the bush!
As you know, I am a motherhood and lifestyle blogger. I have been blogging for 4 years now which sounds like a long time but that doesn’t mean anything in the blogging world. There’s always something new you can learn and I’m forever teaching myself new technics and tactics. Successful social media and marketing methods change daily and it’s almost impossible to keep up to date. I am forever trying to figure out and teach myself new algorithms. It’s fair to say that I’m successful about 5% of the time so there’s no harm in asking the professionals for support.
The one I always struggle with is Pinterest. I just can not for the life of me work the god damn thing out. That’s why I have decided to use my time in lockdown wisely and invest in a course to help me. After searching the Internet far and wide and asking all my blogging friends for advice, they all came up with the same answer! Pinterest With El.
Since implementing the amazing strategies Ell has taught me my blog traffic has literally exploded. Although, it did require a bit of dedication and was not an overnight change it was well and truly worth it. I am so happy that I decided to take the leap and put my trust in her. My blog stats have almost tripled since taking on her course and you know what that means? bigger and better collaborations and opportunities!

I am also officially obsessed with meditation and it’s got to the point where I cannot fall asleep without it. It’s that one thing that helps me shut off my mind from all the stresses of reality. I pop my feet up, put my earphones in, and close my eyes! Everything and anything that happens after that point is one peaceful blur. You don’t need anything special like candles, incense or to be able to cross your legs like a buddha to meditate (although, I do think that’s pretty cool). I mostly do it in the evenings before bed because it helps me prevent myself from overthinking about pointless things. Giving me peace of mind and it enables me to enjoy a bit of alone time to relax.
There are thousands of free meditation videos to listen to on YouTube or you can also download the app Calm. Not everything on this app is free but they do offer a free trial and if you enjoy it then you can purchase either a weekly, monthly or yearly subscription. I believe I paid around £35 upfront for a whole year of access and I use it every single day without fail!
What Can Meditation Help With?
- Reduce Stress
- Increase Happiness
- Reduce Anxiety
- Better Sleep
- Improve Motivation
- Develop Gratitude
- Learn To Love Yourself
- Be A Better Person.
I won’t lie that some days have been a real push to get myself to actually do something. I have had days where I’ve felt like I can’t cope anymore and haven’t wanted to get out of bed. Staying active is one of the only things that has helped me pull myself out of that dark place. I have decided to take up yoga which I now do most mornings and evenings. Yoga with Adriene is the best for home yoga workout classes because she’s fantastic with people capable of all levels. One of the biggest misconceptions about yoga is that you have to be flexible… It’s not true at all! Don’t get me wrong, it will help you but it does not prevent or limit you from getting involved and having fun.
The yoga pose is not the goal. Becoming flexible or standing on your hands is not the goal. The goal is to create space where you were once stuck. To unveil layers of protection you’ve built around your heart. Appreciate your body and become aware of the mind and noises it creates. To make peace with who you are. The goal is to love… well, you. – Rachel Brathen.
We’ve also made the most out of having our family together and made sure to go for our daily walks. Some have been intense uphill hikes with a sneaky little picnic and some have just been a quick lap around the block. No matter how far we went I would always feel better about myself for getting up and getting out. I am very lucky that I live in the middle of nowhere with 100’s of pathways a minimal amount of people. I know not everyone lives in villages like me but no matter where you live you should try to get out. As long as you are careful and follow the government’s instructions then everything should be fine.
There’s nothing quite like having a tidy and well-organised home. Don’t get me wrong it’s not always possible with kids but it’s always nice to dream right? Since the lockdown first began I’ve been spending my time wisely by sorting out all the random nooks and crannies of my house. You know those draws and cupboards that have so much crap inside you usually just push the thought of them to the back of your mind? Yep, they are the ones! Whilst we’re all stuck in lockdown we might as well be productive and start attacking that forever ending to-do list. You know what they say right? A clean home is a happy home.
BINGE WATCH NETFLIX AND DON’T FEEL GUILTY FOR IT
I don’t know about you but I always feel guilty if I stay indoors and watch TV. It makes me feel as if I have wasted the day when I could have done something worthwhile. I try to remind myself that it is ok to have a rest day and enjoy some entertainment like Netflix or Disney Plus (That’s kind of my new favourite thing I won’t lie). The way I see it is life is too short to worry about how high your ironing pile is! It’s like do I hoover or do I watch another episode of Jane The Virgin? Don’t worry my house isn’t a total pigsty just a little bit of one… sometimes.
Here’s my go to Netflix list for all your stay at home mummies and daddies:
- Jane The Virgin
- Working Mums
- The Kissing Booth
- Orange Is The New Black
- Stranger Things
- You Netflix Original
- Sex Education
- The Stranger
STAY IN CONTACT WITH FRIENDS AND FAMILY DURING LOCKDOWN
Understandably, every single one of us is going to react differently to this lockdown. There will be people who will breeze through it all whereas some others may really struggle. It’s important to remember that the ones struggling could be your closest friends and family. Although we can’t meet up with each other there are still many ways to stay in contact. Most people these days have a smartphone so if you do there are plenty of apps you can download. We have been using house party, zoom and facetime to keep in contact with one another and so far it’s been great fun.
TAKE TIME AWAY FROM YOU PHONE/TABLET
Sometimes I notice that I get so distracted by my phone screen that I actually forget to live in the present moment. That usually leads to me feeling guilty and that’s when the awful mum and wife guilt sinks in. It’s something that we all do these days because unfortunately, that’s the way society is. Try not to get dragged into the vicious cycle because if it’s not used correctly it will bring nothing but negativity into your life.
A lot of us are currently working from home which means a lot of us need to use our laptops, tablets and phones all day. I get that sometimes it’s not going to be possible, especially if your job requires you to work around a schedule. Whether that is you or not, everyone should still try to make time to have a break away from the screens when they can. Even if it’s just a 5/10 minute break here and there.
Do remember that my inbox will always be open and you can contact me on Twitter and Instagram any time of the day. In the meantime, make sure to pin this post so you can get back to it whenever you need a little pick me up and/or motivation. You’ve got this!
