AD- The products mentioned in this blog post were kindly gifted to me from Moonpig, however, all opinions are my own.

With the big day soon approaching I wanted to take a moment to wish every Mum, Mummy, Mama out there a Happy Mothers Day!

Whether you celebrate the occasion or not you still deserve that mummy recognition. If there’s one thing I’ve learnt in the last year it is how tough motherhood can truly be. Although, I believe that I have been a pretty good daughter to my mum I feel like I should have appreciated her a lot more.

To think that I’ve only survived one year of parenting and she’s already done 23 years with two children. Damn mum, you’re honestly a superwoman. This year is my very first mothers day and not only do I get to spend it with my mum but I get to spend it with Alexis too.

This year Mothers day has a whole different meaning to me. I just can’t believe that a whole year ago I was pregnant and now she’s here in my arms. Well mostly climbing everything with bare minimum time actually spent in my arms but still.

I have always had a very strong bond with my own mum and nan so I guess that this day has always been a bit special to me. Now I get to be one of the mummies and create my own bond with my special girl

Mothers day

I know that everyone has their own opinions when it comes to celebrating holidays like this. Some people see Mothers day in the same way as they do other holidays, such as fathers day and valentine’s day. Many see it as nothing but a marketing gimmick rather than something special. To some degree, I can definitely agree but I don’t think there’s any harm in having it either.

A special day dedicated to appreciating our mothers is beautiful in my eyes.

Now I am a mum myself I don’t expect a gift but I do think it’s a lovely gesture to have your hard work noticed. Something as simple as a little bunch of flowers would really make my day. Then again, I would be just as happy if someone else wiped my kid’s butt and/or done the bedtime routine as well. Especially without being consumed by the dreaded mum guilt.

As ungrateful as It might sound we don’t all want or need gifts. I feel like sometimes we just want to be appreciated. Sometimes I just want everyone to sit there and tell me they understand how hard my job is! Also telling me how much they are grateful for everything I do wouldn’t go amiss either.

Even if it does means I only get one day a year to be told how good I am doing. It would be good enough for me. Does that make me sound sad? probably but I really do think that would be a good gift, don’t you agree? If you don’t then you’re clearly not a mum! I actually recently put out a question on Twitter asking all mums what their dream gift would be and these are some of the answers I got. You may see some reoccurring themes going on with these answers… have fun reading! I know I sure did.

Rachel Downing –

The best gift I could get would be a sound proof hotel room, big squishy bed, and blacked out blinds/curtains. COMPLETELY on my own. Then I’d finally get a full night of uniterrupted sleep. Roome service and a spa would be a nice bonus too!

Gift Goonie –

I want a day where I can give my little ones food and they eat it without having a meltdown. A day where I put the toys in the toy box and they don’t get tipped out the very next minute and a day where I do the school run without rushing and having an argument about socks. Is that too much to ask for?

Rominas Little Corner –

I just want to go out on my own and have a quiet coffee or lunch. Maybe a nap in a hotel or even a manicure. Then come back to a clean house and a hot meal that didn’t come out of the freezer.

The Honest Mum Club –

I’d love a day where my son wants my husbands food not mine. Even if we’re eating the same thing he wants mine. It would Just be nice to eat my snacks without a screaming toddler shoving his hands into my food.

You don’t need to spend a fortune on luxurious gifts to be able to treat your mum. I find something special and meaningful that you know your mum would love that will be enough. All thanks to Moonpig I have been able to gift my mum something that I know she would absolutely love and adore. Although my own mother isn’t a new parent her job is still just as hard. I guess that’s the thing with parenting. No matter your children’s age, they are always going to be your baby.

This year I have decided to treat my mother to a Smartbox lunch & relaxation for two gift experience. I’ll be honest, I didn’t even know that Moonpig offered gifts like this. If you didn’t either you might be thinking how does it work? For this specific gift, you have a choice of 420 spa and pampering experiences to pick from. These can be found located all over England so there’s a huge selection to choose from.

We have decided to go along for a 25-minute head, shoulder and back massage each followed by a 3-course meal in Zizi’s restaurant. I don’t think you could get that experience for that price anywhere else.

Not only are we getting a bargain, but we are also getting the chance to spend some well-deserved time just the two of us. Which in my eyes is what Mothers day should be all about.

If you’re looking for a special present then it’s always worth checking out Moonpigs gift selection. I was so surprised when I fount out they did more than personalised cards. Have I just been living under a rock or what? Don’t get me wrong I always knew that Moonpig cards were the bee’s knees but I never knew there was more available.

I always find that companies like this are perfect for people who struggle to find spare time to go to the shops or are just simply very unorganised.

There’s no harm in being super unorganised it just isn’t very beneficial to your life (I should know). So with that in mind you unorganised folk, don’t forget to take full advantage of Moonpig next day delivery service either. I’m never that bad but it is always handy to know if you do happen to forget nearer the time.

My mum has always been my number one fan when it comes to supporting my blog. I know she is always the first to read and more than half of the time she is the first to comment too. She is always telling me how proud she is of me and how well she thinks I’m doing.

I don’t always see my own potential but that never stops my mum from constantly reminding me. I feel that I owe it to her to say a big thank you for everything. Most of the things she does for me I don’t even realise. It’s moments like these where I actually sit back and think wow. She is simply the most incredible person I know and I am so lucky to have her as my mum.

This year I feel that I need to be even more thankful than I have ever been before. My mum and grandmother have helped me out so much with everything within the past year. I’ve not only moved house 3 times, but I’ve also had a baby. My mum and nan have been there every step of the way so I do owe them a lot.

They have both shown me that motherhood is never ending and that you are there for your children no matter. I could not thank them enough for everything they do and the way they’ve brought me up.

Appreciation is better then any gift, and something I wish more people gave their mothers or mother friends year-round instead of just during one day or week. I know it is hard to constantly be appreciative, and sometimes I feel like too much appreciation ends up canceling out the meaning, so I know small, thoughtful gifts are always appreciated. 😉

    • March 21, 2020 / 6:20 pm

I could not agree more! You took the words right out my mouth hehe 😉

I agree – I think appreciation is huge! Moms do so so much and to take the day to appreciate that is the least we can do!
