The other day we were invited down to visit one of our local pub/restaurants. The Horseshoes in East Farleigh have recently had a refurbishment and we were lucky enough to be one of the first to see it at their opening press event. This could not have come at a better time for us as we were in dire need of a date night. As I’m sure all you parents know, date night doesn’t come around too often once you have kids. It’s not that you don’t want to make time for each other you just don’t have enough hours in the day (or quite frankly enough energy).
We organised a baby sitter, pulled out our pre-baby section of the wardrobe and headed off for some well deserved time together. We arrived in East Farleigh to find a gorgeous country-style pub in the middle of farmlands and country lanes. The first thing I noticed was the atmosphere of the staff members. They made you feel welcomed almost immediately and treated you like you were royalty. I could not thank them enough for the experience they gave us that night.
Country Setting Yet Modern Design
Before Wednesday night, I had never visited The Horsehoes before so I had nothing to compare the new design with. However, I am a serial wine and diner and I can safely say this is the nicest restaurant I have been too in a long time. The thing I liked most about the refurbishment was the design they had chosen. It had that traditional country style which went perfectly with the old building, but with an up to date modern twist.
There were enough tables in the room to create a busy atmosphere but separated enough to make you feel that you are able to have a private moment with your loved ones. It’s the perfect place to have a Sunday lunch with the family, a catch up with an old friend, or a romantic date night just like we did.
Now for the best bit, the food! We decided to go for the full package and treated ourselves to a starter, main and dessert. There were a huge array of different choices to choose from and I must admit I struggled to come to a conclusion. I am most definitely a foodie and this menu had my mouth drooling with excitement.
After spending a lot longer than I probably should have, I decided on the seared wild Atlantic scallops, with spiced tempura cauliflower, roasted cauliflower purée and micro coriander. This starter was absolutely delicious and I’m so glad I chose it. There’s nothing worse than toing and froing between two choices only to have picked the wrong one in the end. Thankfully, that didn’t happen to me and I thoroughly enjoyed my scallops. If you’ve never had them before I highly recommend you try them here, you won’t regret it.
I’m not always the most adventurous when it comes to food unlike my partner but there were many things I liked the sound off. When it came to choosing the mains I decided to go for the 8oz fillet steak. I’m 23 years old and I have never had a steak out in a restaurant before. As a first impression, I was blown over by the succulent taste that the steak had. It really was all cooked perfectly and I would definitely choose it again.
To end the evening, I went for the ambassadors melting chocolate and hazelnut bomb. Rich chocolate ganache, hazelnut, crisp wafer and vanilla ice cream, encased in a dark chocolate sphere, melted with hot white chocolate sauce. I mean how good does that all sound? It sure did taste good too. I don’t normally go for dessert as I’m usually full up by the end of my main course however, I loved how relaxed it was here. You didn’t feel that you were being rushed through each of your courses. You felt like you had enough time to take your time and let your stomach digest first.
Although we didn’t require this service, I wanted to mention that they also had an extensive vegan and children’s menu. Both of my best friends are vegan and I know they quite often struggle to find restaurants that cater to their needs. I can’t wait to introduce them to The Horseshoe and show them how many choices they would have here. Don’t get me wrong the menu wasn’t the cheapest but it also wasn’t overpriced. You definitely pay for what you get here and I would never begrudge paying the prices stated. When you know you’re going to get high-quality food and top service you don’t mind paying for it.
Get Yourself A Drink:
After our meal, we headed to one of the cosy secluded seating areas by the bar and relaxed with a cocktail. Well, I had a cocktail but Matt had a cup of coffee as he was the designated driving for the evening. There were a huge array of different cocktails to order and I made sure to test out a few them. Thank the lord I didn’t have a baby to look after in the morning. I had the pleasure of testing out the Pornstar Martini first which tasted like nothing I had ever tried before. It was definitely my favourite and I would love to go back and try it again.
Local Attractions and Things To Do:
East Farleigh is located on the outskirts of my hometown Maidstone, Kent. Kent, also known as the garden of England is a beautiful county full of many wonders to discover. Whether you’re planning a trip to the seaside, a country stroll or a historical adventure. There is something here to accommodate for everyone.
If you’re looking for family-friendly entertainment, there are plenty of things to keep children of all ages occupied. As a family, we love visiting Leeds Castle. A historical place that offers a great day out for everyone. A variety of history, alongside play areas, and my favourite market at Christmas time. After you’ve had fun on your day out, why not bring the whole family along and finish up at The Horseshoes for a pub lunch.
Making time for each other is so important in a relationship because being in love is a wonderful thing. Whether you are planning a sit-down meal like us or a fun activity, it’s great to make time for each other. What’s your idea of the perfect date night?
