Cruising From Melbourne? Here’s What You Can Expect Onboard

Cruise holidays are becoming more popular than ever before. What was once the domain of millionaires and other high net worth individuals is now open to virtually all. Many cruise lines provide a number of different itineraries ranging from 2-day cruises to nearby islands or countries to cruises that last 300 days plus and cover almost every continent. The quality and comfort of all these cruises is generally very high and this is the reason why many people go on a cruise holiday for every single vacation.

You may want to book for your own cruise. If you haven’t gone into one yet, below are things to get you familiarised with what happens on a cruise.

Summer Cruise Ship:

If you’re looking into cruise ship holidays for this coming summer, there are still some good deals to be had. Cruises from Melbourne are particularly good value and have received favourable feedback from last year’s passengers. You might be thinking to yourself, ‘What can I expect on cruise’? The answer is probably much more than you expect. Speak to anyone who has previously been on a cruise and ask them for any description and they will give you the same reply: great food, great entertainment and great crew. Here’s a detailed overview of the things you can expect when you book a cruise ship from Melbourne or anywhere else.

Everything You Need To Know:

  • Embarkation– As you board the ship, the ship’s photographer will ask you to pose for a photo. It’s up to you whether you purchase the photo or not, but it does make a fantastic memento, particularly if it’s your first cruise. When you board you may be offered a welcome drink in a souvenir glass. A crew member will then show you to your cabin.
  • Muster Drill– Although seen by some as a tiresome exercise, the muster drill is carried out for the safety of all passenger and crew onboard. You will be given a muster location where your name will be checked with a crew member before you are dismissed to your cabin. This drill can happen at any time, so keep on your toes!
  • Cabin– Depending on what cabin you have selected and what ship you’re on, you will generally find your cabin to be smaller than the average hotel room. Still, they are well-equipped with everything you need. Generally you will find a TV, a desk, storage closet and an ensuite bathroom.
  • Entertainment– Most cruises originating from Melbourne or elsewhere have nightly entertainmentfrom dancers, singers, magicians, comedians and much more.
  • Food And Drink– Some cruise lines give passengers a set time for meals. Whereas others have a continuous buffet throughout the day. Some items, including alcoholic drinks will incur additional charges as will room service.
  • On-Board Activities– There are plenty of things to do on-board aside from eating and drinking. These include but are not limited to swimming, gym, kids’ clubs, massages and spas.
