As many of you will already know, I am pregnant! yay! I’m currently 25 weeks and I am expecting a beautiful little girl at the end of May 2019. In these past 181 days, I have learned so much that I never knew even existed and I wanted to personally share this with you all.

Did you know it’s actually possible to have a positive birthing experience? Well, you most definitely can and that’s where my job comes in today. It’s amazing how much you can benefit just from changing the way you think. Just by practicing a little bit each day you can help provide a positive experience for you and your baby.

birth affirmation

I was recently introduced to this concept by a fellow blogger, Hannah Haworth. When Hannah first contacted me I’d just started reading the book Your Baby, Your Birth by Hollie de Cruz. This was great because I’d just begun to understand how important birth affirmation could be to you during your pregnancy. Since meeting Hannah, I couldn’t be any happier that I allowed her to help me feel so much more confident in my experience.

What Are Birth Affirmation Cards?

Positive birth affirmations, positive self-talk, self help statements, whatever you wish to call them. These are in place to help increase your birth confidence and positivity. Making the perfect gift for a pregnant friend and proving very popular for baby showers.

Women have been giving birth since before the dawn of time. It’s our natural ability to give birth but, as humans it’s also natural to become tense and resilient in times of pain. Birth Affirmations are in place to help build your confidence and trust your natural instincts. So, when you get those feelings of vulnerability you can remind yourself that you are in charge and you can do this.

It’s all about tuning into a relaxed state of mind and trusting that your body knows exactly what needs to be done. Remember, this is your birth and you get to focus on how your birthing happens. The midwives will be there alongside you to support as and when is needed. But overall, you and your body are the ones part of the winning team.

How Can They Benefit Your Pregnancy?

As a first time mum, I’m not going to lie I was absolutely beyond petrified. All you ever hear is people telling you their negative pregnancy stories which give you nothing but fear. It’s so important to remember each and every one of you will experience a different birth. Just because one lady tore and another had forceps, doesn’t mean that’s how your story will go.

The way I have found hypnobirthing cards really useful is to have them hung up across my bedroom wall. They are placed in a specific way so that I can see them clearly as I lay there. Each morning and night I make it my mission to spend 5 – 10 minutes reading through each of the positive messages. There is something extremely motivating and powerful about repeating these and actually believing in each and every one.

If you don’t believe, you won’t achieve.

Where Can I Find Them?

Hannah has a variety of different Birth Affirmation sets which are available to purchase from her Etsy Store. I was very fortunate enough to have received a copy of the Watercolour design. This design was delivered as a printed gift set however, this is also available as a digital download for home printing.

I personally loved the gift sets as they included a little twine and mini pegs to allow for hanging. Of course, you do not need to use the twine included but it definitely does adds a little bit of personality to each set.

Thanks so much for the great post Ashleigh! I’m thrilled you are finding the affirmation cards useful for keeping calm in (dare i say it) the final few months of your pregnancy!

So i may be a teeny bit biased but i have personally had great experience with birth affirmations (combined with general hypnobirthing theory as you mentioned.) Whether coincidentally or not, i had a very quick very straight forward birth with my first and although i did have a good wobble or two when it came to crunch time (it is labour after all), i found the affirmations kept me gronded and calm on the run up to delivery day. Which i have no doubt contributed to my positive experience overall.
Fingers crossed it happens the same this time around (10 weeks to go).

Wishing you and all the mamas to be reading this, a happy healthy and positive birth experience.

I love the idea of pregnancy and birth affirmation cards! It’s a beautiful idea. I birthed my babies long ago. Each birth was a positive and powerful experience…and each was completely natural with no pain meds of any kind. I used breath and focus. I would have loved these cards! Best wishes for you and your baby!

I loved your article. I’m not pregnant, but one day I want to have children and I loved the idea. People really scare us a lot with their stories. I’ve been studying the law of attraction for some time and I believe in the power of positive thinking.

All the best for you and your baby!
