Every year around this time I head to London for the weekend to drown myself in the magical-ness of Comic-Con. This year will be my fourth year attending. However, there is something a little different. I’ve decided to bring you along for the journey.
For anyone who hasn’t experienced the joys of Comic-Con before here is a little preview of everything you can expect. Whatever you are into Showmasters’ events attract all ages, and all fandoms – whatever your interest, be it cosplay, autographs, props or meeting fellow fans, this event provides the space you need to enjoy the things you love!
Sunday morning arrived and we were all super excited! My mum, little brother, boyfriend and I all hopped on the train to London and headed off nice and early. We arrived there for 11 so it wasn’t too busy at this point (Although, we would have got there quicker if we hadn’t got lost on the underground)
It literally took me a good 20 minutes to get this picture and he still had to pull a face!
Anyone else’s boyfriends absolutely terrible at posing for ‘cute’ pictures?
After getting lost on the train we finally arrived. we headed straight indoors to go and check out this years’ entertainment. So, here we are! welcome you to your first time at the London Film and Comic Con. Are you planning on going next year but a bit apprehensive about what to expect? Don’t worry at all, I’m going to show you exactly why you should put comic con on your bucket list.
What is there to do?
Cosplay is one of the most well-known reasons for visiting comic con, as well as it is one of my favorites. I’ve personally never had the courage to dress up but I would love to one day. So many people put so much effort into their outfits that you just can’t help but stare as they walk past. Although, I don’t dress up I always make sure to get a picture with the people who do.
Here is a couple of the photos I took from this year (featuring my brother and mum)
Funko Pop Vinyls are something my partner and I have recently really got into collecting. For anyone who has never heard of the term ‘Pop figures’ Here’s what they are. They are small collector bobbleheads which nearly every fandom has been involved in creating. We currently have a collection of 27 but today we decided to add 4 more to our new home.
Comic-con is a great place to purchase pop figures as some stools have really great deals. The shop we bought from this year had a great deal with 3 pop figures for £30 and you also got a free mug worth £6. Of course, I got the free mug!
When it comes to pop vinyl my one bit of advice would be to always check the other stools before you purchase as some can be cheaper priced elsewhere. If you aren’t planning on buying from comic con, you can always use websites such as Pop in a box and Forbidden Planet.
Meet & Greet
Meet and greet is a really cool service that Comic-con provide, especially when it’s your idol that’s in the line up this year. They give you the chance to purchase autographs or photo shoots with your favorite TV stars. The best thing about Comic-Con is that you don’t actually have to purchase tickets to be able to see the stars. You can take a wander around and have a sneak peek at who’s around (which is what I normally do because I’m a cheapskate).
This year they had some really great actors from; Jurrasic Park, Vampire Diaries, The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones and so many more. You can actually check out the full line up over on their website by clicking the following link.
Live Talk Shows
This year was the first time I actually got to experience going to a talk and listen to a panel. I made sure that I purchased my mum and I tickets to the Vampire Diaries talk as we are huge fans. I was 100% not disappointed, both Paul Wesley and Daniel Gillies were amazing with the crowd despite saying they were exhausted from jet lag.
The audience had a chance to ask them both questions about the show, sneak peaks, and personal life. They both answered all questions and were really great fun to listen to. I found Daniel to be the funniest because he had such a naughty personality which made the talk hilarious.
These talks last averagely around 30/40 minutes long and only cost £10 so you really can’t complain.
And So Much More
These examples are only the beginning of your Comic-Con experience. I wish I had enough time to tell you all but then again, I wouldn’t want to ruin the surprise.
Like what you see? well then make sure you head over to London Film and Comic Con to get your tickets for next year.
